Statement of Intent
Apex Pest Control Ltd is committed to conducting its operations in an environmentally responsible manner. We recognise that pest control activities — including the use of rodenticides, insecticides, and other chemical treatments — carry potential environmental risks, and we are committed to managing and minimising those risks at all times.
We comply with all applicable environmental legislation and strive to go beyond minimum compliance where practicable.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
All services delivered by Apex Pest Control Ltd are carried out in accordance with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles. This means:
- Chemical treatments are used only where necessary and proportionate to the level of infestation
- Non-chemical methods — such as physical exclusion, proofing, trapping, and monitoring — are considered and employed where appropriate before or alongside chemical intervention
- The least environmentally harmful treatment option is always preferred where it is effective
Responsible Rodenticide Use
Apex Pest Control Ltd is committed to the responsible and targeted use of rodenticides in line with the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU) UK guidelines. We:
- Use rodenticides only where justified by a confirmed or evidenced infestation
- Apply rodenticides in tamper-resistant bait stations to minimise risk to non-target species, wildlife, and the wider environment
- Follow all label instructions, approved uses, and restrictions for every product used
- Avoid unnecessary or preventative baiting
- Comply with the stewardship requirements of the CRRU UK Rodenticide Stewardship Regime
Chemical Handling & Storage
All pesticides and rodenticides are stored, handled, transported, and applied in accordance with:
- Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986
- Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR)
- Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH)
- Manufacturer's safety data sheets and label instructions
Chemicals are stored securely in company vehicles in appropriate containers, separated from other materials, and are not accessible to unauthorised persons.
Waste Disposal
All chemical waste, empty containers, and hazardous materials arising from our pest control activities are disposed of via a licensed waste contractor in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005. We do not dispose of chemical waste via drains, general waste, or any unlicensed route.
Protecting Non-Target Species & Wildlife
We take active steps to protect non-target species, wildlife, and the environment from the unintended effects of pest control treatments:
- Bait stations are sited and secured to prevent access by children, pets, and non-target wildlife
- Dead rodents and pests are disposed of in a manner that minimises secondary poisoning risk to scavengers and predators
- We advise clients on the safe removal and disposal of deceased pests following treatment
- We report any suspected incidents of secondary poisoning or non-target wildlife impact to the relevant authority
Continuous Improvement
Apex Pest Control Ltd is committed to continually reviewing and improving our environmental performance. We will:
- Stay informed of changes to environmental legislation and industry best practice
- Seek to reduce unnecessary chemical use through effective IPM
- Review this policy annually and update it to reflect changes in our operations or applicable legislation
Review
This Environmental Policy will be reviewed annually by the directors of Apex Pest Control Ltd.
